Xymox Technologies Acquires Display Product Line
And Forms New Division
Xymox Technologies, Inc., of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Raychem Corporation, of Menlo Park, California, have announced today that Xymox has acquired a license for the use of Raychem's Nematic Curvilinear Aligned Phase (NCAP) liquid crystal display technology in specific markets and applications. As part of the agreement, Xymox will acquire assets at the Sunnyvale, California facility where Raychem has developed and manufactured NCAP-related products. In addition, Xymox acquired an NCAP display business from Raychem with annual revenue of $4 million and formed the Xymox Display Products Division. Jim Kaldem was named Vice President and General Manager of the new division. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Raychem's Display Products Group (DPG) pioneered NCAP technology for innovative liquid crystal displays. The polymer- dispersed liquid crystals used in NCAP technology provide considerably higher brightness levels than conventional liquid crystal displays. Due to its thinness and flexibility, NCAP material is often layered with membrane switches to produce control panel interfaces and other displays. As a result of the agreement, Xymox can provide its customers with a fully integrated and optimized display and combination display membrane switch assembly.
Xymox, one of the world's largest designers and manufacturers of membrane switches, will use the NCAP technology in its target markets for applications in appliances, gaming devices and other equipment. Raychem will continue the development of its innovative low-voltage displays technology for use in portable electronics applications such as battery and computer indicators and Smartcard displays.
"'Be two sets of capabilities are highly complementary, and the synergy here creates an excellent opportunity for Xymox and our customers," said Pete Sognefest, Xymox Chairman and CEO. "We will become a high- and low-volume, high-quality producer of these integrated display assemblies and anticipate that the market and customers will benefit from this capability."
"We are pleased to have completed a transaction with a partner who understands customer requirements and will ensure continuity of supply and service of NCAP technology and display products," said John McGraw, senior vice president for Raychem s Electronic OEM Components business segment. "This will allow Raychem to concentrate on conunercializing low voltage displays for portable electronics equipment."
